Hey Guys,

It has been a very busy summer for me with work and I haven't spent much time photographing my fish. I had a shipment of F1 calvus earlier this week so I thought I'd take a few photos. I probably had close to 200 fry in this group and now, with Monday's shipment, I am under 50 :o I guess it is time to start saving some new born fry again.

In any event, I pulled a group of the larger fry (at 2", I should probably call them juvies instead of fry) and put them in a 10 gallon tank for photography purposes. I got my photos and shipped most of the group on Monday. Here are some "no flash" pictures of them...

Please click on the images to see them "full size"

F1 Altolamproloogus calvus (Black Congo White Pearl)

In addition to having the largest white pearls of any calvus, the BCWP's have a yellow trait that appears on many of their foreheads.
It is hard to say; but, I'd guess that well over 60% of them have yellow foreheads.

I hope you enjoyed the photos :)

Interesting about the yellow forehead trait and very cool pics.

Do wilds exhibit the forehead trait? Is there more than 1 collection point? Is the percentage the same for males vs females? Is the fry percentage higher if both parents carry the trait? Sorry for all the questions, just find the color morph subject fascinating.

Yes, the wild parents have yellow foreheads. The one male has the yellow and the 4 of the 5 females have the yellow and the 5th kinda has some yellow. The % of fry with yellow is probably higher than 60%. I just know there are a few that don't but most do.

I just went to take a look at my wilds and they are all in "Inkfin" mode right now and are super dark. Here's some older pictures when not in Ink mode :)

Here's my male in a light color mode with a lot of yellow

Here he is in middle mode

Here's a pic of 3 of the females (you can see the two on the right are in Ink mode)

The male spawning with a female and you can see he is pouring on the yellow

Here's the one female that is more gray and not much yellow. I call her misty because she has a misty appearance

An older pic of the male in Inkfin mode

Sorry about all the pics :) I just love the special color on the BCWP varient

Because of all that yellow some of the fry have some pretty amazing coloration. The following fish has been separated from the main group (because I don't want to accidentally sell him). The first few pics are from January and you can see he has gold lace around his fins which is quite unique

Please ignore the "gold lace" text - I was messing around. He is 100% BCWP.

I believe this recent picture is of the same fish and he has kept that gold lace.

I know what pairing he came from and next time those two spawn I am going to save the fry and try to see if more will turn up like this.
