First I would like to thank all the people that keep this site up and running. I've been browsing around for a few days and can tell everyone here has a love for the hobby.

My first venture into keeping african cichlids was around 1977. I was bitten pretty hard and before long I was breeding and selling several species of mbuna to the local stores. Over the next several years I owned 2 pet stores and bred exotic birds.

In the past few days I have converted my 150 gal tank back to africans and I'm enjoying keeping fish again.

I look forward to learning a great deal from the membership.

Thanks ,

Mike

Hello Mike, welcome to ACF! wave.gif wave.gif wave.gif

What kind of exotics?

I currently have an SI Eclectus.... and I used to raise show pigeons.... Russian Tumblers & Birmingham Rollers, they were so cute wub.gif

What kind of Africans will you be keeping?

Great to have you with us, we hope you enjoy your time here.

We raised Blue and Gold , Greenwing, Military, Harliquin, Severe and Yellow collard Macaws. Also White fronted and Mexican Redhead Amazons.

Is your Eclectus male or female? I had a friend that raised rollers......neat birds.

The aquarium will just be common mbuna and a few synodontis.

Sounds like you have an interesting career/background with fish and birds. Just curious what you had in the 150 before you converted it? I find one nice thing about fish is how you can keep things interesting just by making a change once in a while. Sometimes going back to an old favorite is as good as trying something new.

The 150 had Tin Foil Barbs,RT sharks, Tiger Barbs, Plecos and various catfish.

It just got too stale and boreing. It was in the room but I paid little attention to it.

Maybe cichlids won't become too addictive this time. ......I have over twenty aquariums not in use. Sizes 55 -20L
