Noticed my white lab wasn't holding anymore as of last night, so I went fishing in my tank today. Got 4 white lab fry ( th_38326493.gif ), buggers are hard to see because they blend in with my pale gravel, probably some that I missed, and I accidentally squashed one trying to net it ( sad.gif ). Also got 4 demasoni fry, and two demasoni that are around 3/4", that look really nice. Made me realize the dem fry I have in my grow out look pretty pale, decided I didn't have enough hides and they're probably dull because they're stressed with too much open water. So, added a bunch of rock.

I'm afraid my fry in the grow out are too big and will eat the newborns, so they're in a breeders net for a couple weeks to get some size. I know the big guys have been known to find ways to eat fry through a breeders net, but this net is in the grow out tank so nobody is big enough to do it.

Here come some pics, maybe more later if I get motivated. These guys were in a drinking glass when I took this, to give you an idea of scale. Oh, and found another demasoni holding today, these things are machines. Hahaha.

And, mama:

Hoping that the fry develop more color than the parents, I don't feel the parents have much black at all.

Nice pics of the fry. Really gives a good perspective of just how small they are, and how early demasoni develop color.

Thanks Crowned.

Those Dem really do develop color quick. Which is nice, because it makes it easier to pick them out from Elongatus fry when I'm on a fry hunt in my display. tongue.gif

I wish Elongatus males would show signs of their color quickly since I can't bring the females to the LFS for any credit. I actually want to get rid of my Chewere and replace them with a group of OB Zebras, but can't find any takers locally. Actually, after seeing pics of Aulonocara Jacobreibergi Eureka Red on cichlids.net I want to get rid of my Mbuna all together and turn the tank into a Peacock tank. laugh.gif

The labs are starting to show signs of black in their dorsal, albeit thin lines, but lines none the less.

Will let you know the next time I'm out your way, and if you still have the Chewere, I'll gladly take them off of your hands!!

Sounds like a plan! Hah. If you got something good in growout we could make it a swap!

Heather - thanks smile.gif constantly finding holding dems now, haven't seen the labs hold again yet but excited about the few fry I got this first time from them. Can't wait for them to grow out.
