Hello !!
Hopefully found a forum to help me on my journey with cichlids, I've a 4ft tank which i recently (2mth ago) changed from community to a cichlid tank, Bought 4 "blood" jewels to go in to see how they went & didn't want to overstock all at once, Anyhoo they are living with 5 pepper corys left from the community tank they all get along fine... That is until this last 3-4 days where i noticed what i think is a female becoming very territorial in 1 area of the tank & attacking the males. This morning i find little baby fry !!
I wasn't really looking to breed as i was told sexing was difficult & obviously being new to them i wanted to keep them a fair while 1st, Anyhoo here i am secretly very pleased that i obviously must have the right tank conditions for them to breed.
As yet the fry are all huddled together along the side of the tank, on the sand right next to a sprout of elodea which must of been left over from the tank change & sprouted up. Sometimes they spread along the sand but then i've watched the mum seem to gather them back together in 1-2 groups.
My tank is 4ft long, 18" high & 15" wide, with sand substrate, an 18" tall mangrove root ornament, some slates & rocks for hidey holes & caves & also a pirate ship which 1 of the 4 cichlids has claimed as his lol
I'm also being taken in early to have a c-section on tuesday with my baby so a busy week for me!!
I guess i better find the right section to ask for help so off i go :)
