anyone got any great pics? Maybe I could get some ideas for future fish keeping. I havent really been largely into Vics yet because they all seem to resemble "species 44"/obliquiden type things undecided

I'm running out of space on photobucket, so I have to just post the threads where these pics are located. Hope it helps!

Great pics Matt!! I really like the color on those guys. Are they pretty easy going? or are they aggressive? I really have little to no experience with Vics. Thanks.
HornPlayer54
Hey, thanks Fan!

They are pretty aggressive, and I can only imagine that they will be more so soon enough. They are still not quite adult size at ~1.5-3" (that is, adult size according to what I have read, although they have spawned).

These are VERY active fish, and the two displaying males go after each other pretty often. There is no damage to date, but I think it's good that I have so many females to keep them occupied.

Thanks again!

hey "BB" heres my neyeri, mine are supposidly WC, for what thats worth. i think that "HP'S" look alot better than mine, i hope to do some trading with him ih the future.

and heres the pic from "Armkes" for the aststotilapia aneocolor i bought from them earlier this year. i got six of them at 1 inch, and their about 2 inchs right now. and it looks like one of my little females may be holding...i'n not sure yet, but i'll know this weekend. the pic says their from Lake Albert, i know that they arent vics, but i figured i show em to ya anyway being as their not the usual that we see around here. i'll get some pics of them this weekend.

"FKC", these fish are demons! they are unholy terrors, i have lost two yellow labs to my male, hes about three inchs long. the labs were about four or five inchs long. at one point, i had them in with my chrysti, the male neyeri was only two inchs then, and the chrysti was at least seven. the male neyeri ahd the make chrysti stuck in the back upper corner of the tank and would torpedo him if he moved. it was not funny...now i can alugh about it, but at the time it was not funny. i am fixing to move the trio into a thirty gallon tall with an eggcrate divider between the male and the females (2). and hope tha tthey will breed through the grid. they are pretty prolific breeders, but their fry are like a school of piranha. i had to move them into a holding container in my growout tank, and hope tha tthey didnt kill each other before i could trade them off. i got ris of them last weekend, but i have another spawn on the way.

Great pics mongo!! I like the looks of those guys. They're pretty mean by the sounds of it huh? Are there any Vic's that work out well in a community tank together? Like I said, I really don't know much about them, so I'm trying to be a sponge I guess mr.green

I heard you mention "breeding through the divider". Have you, or anyone for that matter, had success with this method??

They must be pretty aggressive if they are 2" and bossing 7" fish around holymoly Sounds like my Kenyi.....they are about ready to move down the road for their bad behavior. grin

Wow...terrors yet truly gorgeous fish. I love the colouring on the first pic in your link...very pretty.

yes "FKC" they are truly "EVIL", they are fearless and homicidal. but i love em, they would probably give the Crazy's "Lucifer" a run for his money. and yes i have had fish breed through a divider. it needs to be eggcrate, that has holes about 1/2 wide. it really keeps the female from being abused as much as normal when breeding.

thanx "cowgil"!

I think Vics have some of the best looking egg spots!

mongo, maybe I could borrow him for about a week rather than your kids???

Next time Lucifer gets on a rampage, I'll threaten him with mongo sending up his bad boy!

Nice pics!

Mrs. C. i would love to send you the entire trio in exchenge for some of those wonderful cobue fry. but i fear that not only would he kill indescriminantly any thing you put him with. and they would breed like ya'lls auratus's do, some tyoud be out of space and youd be mad at me for sending you another demon possesed fish. besides i just got a new thirty galon tall to put him and his girls in this weekend. i'll have to divide the tank, but its a price i'm willing to make.

I haven't ventured into the Victorian realm yet, there are some that really have come close to becoming members of the fish room. th_38326493.gif

Wow! Very cool AA. My P. neyerei are holding again! I love the Vics so far.
mongo
very nice "AA', those are one of the better looking Vics in my opinion. i have really begun to look into more of the Vics and other lake cichlids. i have six Astatotilapia Aneocolor from Lake Edward, i had been posting them as coming from Victoria...but i was "learned" different a couple of weeks ago. "HP%$" are your neyeri still living peaceably? i kinda regret getting rid of mine..but i just couldn't lose any more fish to him. that color morph had become pretty regular around here...so i can pick them up again in the future. some time when i have a tank to dedicate solely to them.

Haplochromis sp. "Limax" female holding, look closely at the tip of her upper lip. You can actually see the eggs icon_mrgreen.gif

HornPlayer54
NICE AA!!!! What do the males look like? Any pics?
Africans Anonymous
Horn, IME the coloration of the male vic turns on and off like a light switch. I guess they can maintain beautiful color when dominant. In my situation they are not dominant in my tanks but do 'turn on" when breeding. This limax pair are still young. My Burtoni male is simply to die for but is not photogenic and when I do capture him it does not do him justice.
