Hello all, just joined the site today and hope to get some more ideas for my tank. I moved last year and just now started to setup my tank again.

I have had cichlids before, but it wasnt a very cichlid specific tank, just random plastic junk from petsmart to decorate. My goal is to create a more realistic environment for the next batch of fish.

I'm sure you all will help get this thing lookin good.

I currently have a 50 gallon setup, which i really havent seen before purchasing this tank, Its slightly longer and taller than my previous 29 gallon starter setup, but quite wider. I couldnt pass up the deal the store had (discontinued)

Congrats on the new tank!! What are the dimensions?

Also have you decided on what type of cichlids you plan on getting, or are you looking for some suggestions? How to decorate a tank to achieve a natural looking environment depends on what species you are keeping.

I had a lot of luck simply collecting granite around our area, washing it off well... and using it in my tanks.
