Filled, the rocks are not exactly "mongoish" but it's a work in progress! Tomorrow the fish from my 70 go in there! This is a milestone for me I've had this tank since May(birthday present) and finally had the time to get it going. This means it's fish shoppin time! thumbs up

Oh yeah, I still have to build doors for the stand!
HornPlayer54
Looking good skraeling! Any thoughts on fish? Gibbs perhaps.....? smiley smiley
skraeling
I wish I could but It's going to house my haps along with a few additions. I'm going to up my dolphins from two to six and then my nephew has some Yellow Sunshine peacocks growing out for me and then.... holymoly Yikes I'm going to need a bigger tank! holymoly

My 70 is going to become a mbuna tank.

Very nice work!! Looks great with the stain you used. thumbs up
mongo
i must disagree, i think your rocks have a decidedly "mongoish" appearance. everything looks great and i am totaly envious. i am especially envious of that wood shop, thats what makes me "woody".
mongo

Thanks all. I'll post some more pics after the fish are back in there!

Very nice. I wish I had your woodworking skills...methinks I'd be missing a few digits grin

ditto! Very nice work!

i have a meager wood shop in back of my house. two lathes, table top band saw, drill press and table/router table. we also have a chop saw and assorted hand tools. my father and i make heirloom quality writing pens and other turnings. it'll never be anything to quit our day jobs over, but its fun to get out there and mess around.
i'm really impressed with your stand, will you be adding doors on the front or will you leave it open? i know its just asthetics at this point, but i have three little kids who love to see how things work. i would have to put locking doors on the front.

I'll be putting doors on the stand for my wife's sake. As you can see from the photos once my kids are in that EMF field called the idiot box they are oblivious to the world around them. When we speak to them all they hear is the buzz of bees. Just like in a Charlie Brown catoon when one of the gang would talk to an adult, Blah, Blah, Blah.... I never fully understood those cartoons until I had kids of my own. holymoly
mongo
AMEN BROTHER ONE THE KID THING.

All the fish are in their new home with the exception of my plecos. there is no work for that crew in the new tank yet. Besides I gotta keep the biofilter going until I get some mbuna!
iuhippiechick
Great job on your stand! We're thinking of making our own stand for a freebie tank I have access to. Seeing yours gives me hope! cheesy
mongo
I BOW BEFORE THE MASTER...that is one more awsome tank. keep us posted on the develpoments.

Now that is one awesome stand. thumbs up great job. It looks very strong . what did you use on the outside for wood is it pine board or did you use a hardwood for the face ? .. I really like the way it looks.
skraeling
I made the face frame out of 4/4 red oak and 3/4 reoak plywood for the rest of the carcass then stained the whole project with Watco's Danish oil Dark Walnut Stain.

blush.gif Aw shucks! blush.gif Thanks again all. I'll have to say I got my inspiration from all the different diy stands I've seen on the various forums. So Here's to all the DIYers on the net! icon_cheers.gif
Les
Dave what the heck did you do, replace a couch with the tank????
I see a little Skraeling laying on a "magic carpet" on top of the coffee table watching the tube! th_killingme.gif
mongo
aaaaawwwwwwwwww "BB" your just jealous. i'll say it again "SK", that is an awsome stand. i have a huge wrought iron stand that i've been eyeing since you started this thread.
Les
Ah, heck yeah Im jealous!! Thats beautiful.
I wish I was that good a woodworker too!!

icon_thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif Great Stand Sk. Can you if you dont mind give us some info on the plans. Would you make one with legs? I want to make a stand some time, but i'm scared that I screw up on it and lose a tank.

Again great job. You should be proud. icon_cheers.gif
Albino Pleco
icon_thumbsup.gif Very nice stand 'SK'.

Whats really good about it is that you can enjoy it every time you watch the TV.
mongo
hey "AP", that why i have three tanks ( two 55s and a 90) in the living room. when theres nothing good on...you can watch fish.
cowchick75
That's gorgeous...I love the grain in the wood!

Sounds like both Cappacino and Mongo are next. Hey...if you guys are nervous of doing a stand like this one and have a wrought iron one set up...I can help you out with doing a 'cabinet stand' look alike...wrap around your wrought iron stand like I did!!!

Just a thought!
mongo
the wrought iron stand has been relegated to the bedroom, you have to have special permission to view that tank.LOL
Albino Pleco
permission granted, oh you mean from your wife??? th_killingme.gif
mongo
its only cause shes protective of her lair...if your knew anything about women you would know that "AP". they hate for you to show someone where they keep their lingerie and things without letting them know first. oh i forgot...the only pink things your familiar with is the supposedly bald head of "Big Brother". fies010.gif
Albino Pleco
I think it's time for you stop drinking to much 'shine". thumbsup.gif

I dont recall anybody asking to see your attire,,,,just the tank!!!! rolleyes.gif

THERE ARE YOU HAPPY???? fies010.gif

thats a 55 breeder that i use for a semi-grow out tank. its holding my up an coming stock. its got six Astatotilapia Aneocolor, 4 Oto. Lithobates and 2 Ps. Flavus. all of them are 2.5 inches are less...i know...i know...i know its way under stocked. but this way i can monitor the growth closer, and make sure that these guys are getting enough to eat.

skraeling
in your last post with pics in the 3rd pic whats that thing in the corner of the room to the right of the tank ? fies010.gif
skraeling
Wow I'd forgotten about this post. It was alot of fun rereading it!

That thing in the corner is a child entertainment center note how their eyes never wander from its sight. What would we ever do with out them! They didn't even notice that photos were being taken at the time.
RodB
WOW, you could build a house on that thing !

No problem holding a 125...

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing... I always say.
Pseudospecialops
Just happened across this "before I joined ACF" post and wanted to say, "Wow, Skraeling, you built a beautifully made stand!" That's nice design and beautiful execution.

Puts the 8' stand I built for my old tanks long ago to shame!
