This is a rough draft of some rules I thought of for the photo contest. Please give me feed back on these...what you think will work, what you think will not work, something you think I have left out.
ACF's Monthly Photo Contest
1. Each month there will be a different theme.
2. Photo entries will be emailed to Les and he will post them anonomously in a thread in the photo section.
3. Photos will be judged by member poll.
4. The winning photo will be displayed on the index page.
5. Please only use origional photos and not ones that have already been posted.
6. Please don't discuss the photos until that month's contest is completed.
7. Only one photo per member will be allowed each month.
8. The winner will refrain from posting pictures for 2 months after s/he wins.

sounds lika a winner "deb", i think you got all of my concerns covered. and it should be fun to see all the pics that people will be posting. just one concern left...no pics of the notorious pink thong please. we have young'uns around here and they need to see more of life before scarring sets in.LOL

Well I don't think a "thong" contest theme would work...some of us here don't even know the right way to put them on!

When you say "original", do you mean totally original?? Without the use of editing with photoshop....you know, like remove a fish from the pic by resizing, etc.....it makes no diff. to me, just trying to understand clearly??
AP.....I picked up the same thong as you last week mr.green

Looks good Debbie.
Does original also mean never posted anywhere before? Or just never in a contest? Doesn't matter too much to me, just looking for more info.

Well, what do you guys suggest? I have heard some concerns that some people are better at editing pics than others, or might just have better editing programs. I was just thinking that it should be your own pic and a pic that was not posted before, either on this forum or another one. There are many people here that belong to more than one forum and others could recognize the pic. I personally think editing pics would be fine, but you tell me.

Rules look good to me too. Can I ask what the maximum resolution should be, i.e., 640x480, 800x600, etc.?

Great job, Debbie...And the offer still stands...Anyone who wants to use our editing software is welcome to it, as long as it ends up in our hands at the end of the road...It isn't licensed and doesn't require a certificate number, and you can clean up alot of fish poop with it!
I think editing is fine, as long as you don't alter the fish in any way. Cropping and fine tuning just makes the pic more enjoyable to view.
I think we should have some "comical" categories, if we can come up with some.

i think that "editing" pics should be limited to poop and other fish not wanted in the final pic. i dont think that we should allow people to adjust the pic parameters by "tweeking" the hues and colors. or by tampering with the saturation amounts. i mean tell if i'm wrong, but this contest is about the picture not the ability to "airbrush" right. i think the winner should be pick according to how good the fish looks and how well the picture taker captured the fish. not about how well you can "airbrush" out.

I agree, mongo, I don't like the pics that the fish are cut and pasted onto a solid background, I think the surroundings should be natural.
The software that we are passing around will allow you to auto adjust the color, levels, exposure and contrast, but this isn't actually changing anything, it just gets rid of shadows and takes the pic you made and makes it the best it can be. There are tools on there that you can "cut" the fish out of the pic, or airbrush coloring on, but it's easy enough to tell if someone uses that. I just don't know how you specify what can and can't be used. The crop feature is great to allow you to focus on that one fish that you were trying to get the shot of.
Anyway, the software is making the rounds in the US, so if you want to use it, let me know and I will tell you who has it and make sure everyone gets it that wants to use it! We'll just start a list and it might take a bit, but everyone is welcome to it.

thanx Mrs. C., but i have "photoshop 8.0" and enjoy the heck out of it. maybe we need to start a thred in the loung for users to post artwork they have done. we would have to make sure we follow the "BBACFCA". thats the "Big Brother of African Cichlid Forum Cleanliness Act" so that we can keep this a family place. ROFLMAO that way we can post those airbrushed beauties that we all make in our spare time.
