Why is this topic "closed" in the lounge ?

I noticed the same thing Pseudo, and I even PM'd Les to see why.

As he axplained why he locked it, it started making sense as to why he did it.
I mention to him that he had better explain that to the thread starter Mongo.
It sounded like a silly reason, but when Les post' it here,,you'll understand why.

Don't get me wrong,, I enjoyed it very much and still would like to see something like that again.

Mongo,,,I am not sure if Les PM'd you yet,,,so don't take it personal. When it gets explained,,I think you'll understand fully.

Ok, this is the reason I closed it. I have no real problems with it. In fact I liked it a lot. There was only one problem with it though. As on many forums, responses to threads are counted. I am using the thread counter as a tool and only one of the criteria for future moderator positions. Since we are new- only like two months old, we have grown pretty well considering its the summer months- typically a slow time for forums.
If things continue on the upward trend in membership and # of posts, I plan to recruit current members (that have been with us from the beginning) right from this forum. On some large forums, you rarely hear from a mod unless youve done something wrong or its your lucky day. I like having a large staff. I like having the mods so active on the postings. I feel it adds to the closeness.

The word association thread was throwing the counts off by crazy numbers.
One word answers counted as a post, but are not indicative of showing any real contribution to the site. And in the end the truer the counts, the better a guide a post count will be for promotional opportunities. uhhuh

Makes a lot of sense Les. Thanks for explaining it. I too had wondered where it went.... Good call IMO if it will be a criterion for mod.

MONGO NO ANGRY "les" i take no offense at all. i wish i had known that was your plan. i would have waited before starting it. i would like to see it start back up in the future, i really enjoyed seeing what the others posted. but i shall leave it you and your infinite wisdom as to a good time. thank you for explaining, alot of other mods would have just said something along the lines that it was stupid, boring or taking up to much room on the server. thank you for your honesty.

Not stupid or boring at all. It was a cool idea. I had no idea how much it would take off holymoly . I have to look into some way to possible shut off the reply counter on just that topic in the future. I think its great, I am just anticipating more membership soon and the need to possible recruit some help. Its my hope to be able to take into consideration how many quality replies that members post as part of the criteria for moderator positions.

Mongo, I hear ya. I think we are fortunate to have great members with a sense of humor here. There are some early posts between staff members about 8 weeks ago when we started this forum stating that our goal was to attrack and maintain members here that dont take things to seriously and have fun as the hobby and forums should be. For that I thank you and all who contribute so much. thumbs up
