I can definitely say that you'll be very impressed when you see the pics of Jon's tank, it looks ace!

PS Just post 'em up mate, then post more when you get the fishies in there.

OK, here goes with a little run through...

I started with this (plus a few other bits and pieces):

And ended up with this:

Here's a shot with better white balance:

The tank is 4' x 18" x 2' (about 340L or 75G), filtered by an Eheim 2213, Eheim 2217, Pro Aqua CF1200 and a PondMaster 11w UV steriliser:

I was given strict instructions from "upper management" that I could have only one tank and that it had to look good without plumbing running everywhere. So, plumbing for the filtration is located behind the 3D background except for the strainers for the 2 big canisters and outlet for one of them. Two of the canisters pump water back into the tank behind the background and this flows through a number of holes hidden away. The smaller canister has a strainer plumbed into the background (you can just see this about the middle - bottom 1/3 of the tank.

It will be home to a Tropheus moorii Ilangi colony of about 20-25 and various catfish (a few suckers, featherfin and cuckoo). It will be a display tank, breeding will be a bonus, eventually, but I won't worry too much about them going missing to the catfish.

I picked up a couple bristle nose and plecos yesterday...

...with a trip to Canada in July, the main occupants will be waiting until our return in August.

I've got a few more pics of the BACKGROUND INSTALL, TANK SETUP and TANK OCCUPANTS available (follow the links). These will be added too as I go along.

Cheers

I love the background th_38326493.gif

I love it too, it's looks very realistic and as it starts to grow a little algae it will really start to look awesome!

I'll keep things updated, but with the trip coming there won't be much happening until August.

Very nice set-up Jon. I too love the background. th_38326493.gif

I too love the background. Very "natural" looking.
Questions:
1. How far does the background come out towards the tank. (spacewise)
2. Are those "hiding" places and do they connect for easy entry and exit??
(the ones that look like holes in the upper right and under it?)

Very creative background IMO.

Oh,,by the way,,welcome to our "rubber" room. I am sure you'll fit in just fine.
spedwards
Yes, they are very natural looking. Side by side with the real rock in there it's difficult to tell them apart.

To answer your questions:
1. At the "tallest" point, the big bulge on the right side, it is 10" tall, most other places range from about 2" to 4".
2. There are a number of little caves and overhangs, but no connecting tunnels. One of the plecs has taken a liking to the one in the bottom right of the bulge.
