Jolley
I'm curious why a lot of members on this forum and others don't fill out all the fields in the profile section. Is it for safety reasons? Do you just want to remain mysterious? In my opinion, it just helps everyone have an idea of whom we're communicating with. Actually, the fields I like to see are the location, age and sex. That's enough to give me an idea of whom I am chatting with. So what do you guys think? Is it possible for everyone to get on board and fill out those fields in the profile section?! Let's do it! mr.green thumbs up

Edit: It looks like this forum doesn't list this information under your name/avatar. I thought it did as other forums do. My mistake.

Les/Mark, can we apply that to the forum? I think Cyphos has it that way. I'm about to check that out.

Good idea Jolley,,

But the way I look at it is this,,most women wont tell ya their real age anyways. rolleyes

And most will tell them what they wanna hear!!! grin

Me,,I just never really filled out the "profile" pages anyways. WHY?

If someone wants to talk to me,,I'll tell them anything they want to know. If not,,my loss? To me,,,I think we'll learn more from someone by asking questions about them straight up.

name,,Mark
location,,Ct
age,,old
sex,,never
tc51
name,, Tom
location,,Calgary, Alberta Canada
age,,Very old
sex,, Sure. ROFLMAO
Les
I like Jolley's point. The profile section contains tells a bit about each of us. Its there for others to see.
I do look at them from time to time. Forums are designed for members to be interactive. Profiles are a cool way to know a little about who you are talking to winkk
Debbie
We won't tell our real age huh? Wish I knew that before I did! I'm not one for telling anyone what they want to hear either...I tell it as I see it silly. Anyway a profile would be nice for all to fill out if they want, I like to know a little about who I am talking to. I will fill out the rest of mine, but a few more spots for the things Jolley mentioned would be great.
Orbital
Had just not gotten around to editing it actually. I filled in my info, 27 y/o dude from Iowa, into African cichlids, mostly Malawian. My name is Chad.

Is it possible to show people's locations (if they choose) beside their avatars, post counts, ect. ??
pseudofreak
I think seeing where someone is from would be nice. I myself could not care less if I seen how many posts a person has made. but I'd like to see where a person is from maybe their gender. thumbs up
Les
Some good ideas, but right now people arent even filling out anything in their profiles undecided

I usually have to get comfortable on a site before I put out info. I am distrusting of people anyway because of my job. It took me a while on cyphos.com before I was willing to put anything other than vague info out there. It's nothing personal against the members here. I just like to see what people are about before I hang myself out there. Mark knows me pretty well and we have even talked on the phone but that was only after 1500 posts on cyphos! Anyway, I have rambled but I hope I have answered your question.

Dawg,

I trust any "Redneck keepin' blue fish". thumbs up

Yeah and any guy from Kentucky can't be all bad as far as people from Kentucky go! mr.green

I would like the location to appear under our names....personally I don't really care about ages...but location is useful to me as a Canadian...it is hard to get advice about certain products and prices not knowing if the person is from Canada or the US. Alot of products that are available aren't readily available in Canada.

Oh and by the way...I am not ashamed of my age...I am 27...turning 28 in September... holymoly OMG 28...that's almost 30!!! holymoly I never really thought about it that way....what do I have to look forward too?????? I agree with the location idea... On the other forum I visit frequently CYPHOS.COM, I refer to location often.

Right on Dawg thumbs up I also feel the same way...But once I have find a niche in Cyphos.com, it's not too difficult to share personal stuff...JMO

BTW Aqua_Flower, you are not the only one feeling the effect of time...I am turning 29 this October and trust me it's not fun...But I look at it from the birght side, I have you all "fishaholics" here as my friends and that's enough to make my day already thumbs up

FYI, I go by Ben, though my real name is still a mystery to you guys mr.green
and I am in Dallas, TX, no family yet to worry about mr.green
ShortVersion
Ben,

You live in Dallas? Dayum... I didn't know that. My daughter and her family lives in there. Dude, next time I come out there we have to get together and cold one or two. cheers
mongo
i have to agree with "dawgboy" some what, about putting personal stuff out there just willy-nilly. but on the other hand when i joined this site, i decided to give more info than on any of the others i have been to. the reason is that if we as innocculated, blasie, innsular fish geeks dont trust first; then we wont ever get there. i work in law enforcement, and i know that i am very reserved and stand offish when meeting new people. thats because you never know when your going to run into someone with a beef against the cops. so you sit in th resturant with your back to the wall and give anyone who talks to you the "LOOK". any way the soap box will be empty for awhile. i have to get down from there.
hey "ben" i dont reside to far from you. i'm in north texas also. close enough to dallas that its within an easy trip either way. and "shortversion" let me know the next time ya'll gonna be in our little old state and we'll get together and throw some big thick juicy steaks on the grill and knock back your libation of choice.
mongo
ben_cichlid
Mehmet, sure give me a holler when you are in town, maybe we can get together with Mongo too thumbs up
ShortVersion
Ben,

I definetely will let you know. Does Kirk live in Dallas too? That's great. I am looking forward to it. uhhuh
mongo
no i actually live in aubrey (the "sticks"), thats in denton county. thats about thirty minutes north of dallas, depending on where "ben" lives in dallas. hey "ben" living in dallas do you know about "Keller Farms" just south of Keller. (duh, mongo) any way they are just about the coolest fish store around. the owner is Page Ullman. and that man has forgot more about cichlids than i have ever known. check them out if you havent already.
mongo
ben_cichlid
No Kirk, I have not checked out this place yet...After doing a search on Yahoo, it says I need to drive 1 hour from Sachse to get there...with the high gas price I might think about it twice... mr.green
Actually I work in Austin, so I only go back to Dallas to visit my folks and my friends on the weekend only...And to tell the truth LFS in Austin is a bit better in Dallas, which I think is pathetic when it comes to African Cichlid, most store try to make their money on SW stuff...Dallas North Aquarium is OK but expensive and fish is not that healthy looking anyway, always cramped in a small space...Fish Gallery is a bit better with more tank space, fish look better but still expensive...I am done wasting my money at these 2 places... mr.green So I might check out Keller Farms sometimes...thanks for the info though thumbs up
PM sent to you...
Les
guys, if you do get a chance to get together, maybe take some pics and post here. I think its cool that our members have someone local to hang with. My goal locally is to have some RI club members join, some MA club members join, so that when AP, Pseudo, Trainer, Skraeling, Zallyn, Cappacino, and myself do the auction circut next spring, we can all hang out.
So tell your friends in your area about the forum, that is if you live near any addicts!! thumbs up
mongo
MAN WOULD'NT THAT BE GREAT! man am i looking forward to something like that. i know of no other "crazy fish people" around here. the owner of my favorite LFS, just rolls his eyes when i come in with my "fish bible" (thats what Mrs. Mongo calls it). its the tenth edition of Axelrods lexicon of all the aquarium fish. its got fish suitable for keeping in aquaria from everywhere. "ShortVersion" let me know whne you'll be back in the area, and i'll figure out the logistics. there are a couple of cool places to visit, and good fish stores around. hey ben, i didnt forget about you. let me know when you'll be here and i'll make you the same offer. cool fish, fellow fish geeks and large quanities of grilled meat. what could be better.
"les" i'm not sure you guys are ready for my pic yet. i am a large land mammal you know. i'm 6'2" and weigh in at three hundred and ten pounds. i have been known to scare small children. and some of the guys i work with call me "Fat B#####d" from the "austin powers" movies. its becuase i've got red hair and i'm irish (at lest I've goot a foine Irish broughe gahing and i have a kilt) but Mrs. Mongo says shes got a good pic for me to scan in and post. so i'll try to get to it this week. Mrs. Mongo is so cute, she feels that you guys should know what you're getting into by letting me join this forum. but if this "meeting of the minds" happens i will be sure to bring my camera and take lots of pics.
any way, when you guys hit the auction circuit next spring are you guys going to be taking wish lists from people? bouncered there are a couple of rare malawans i'm really looking for. and i would be willing to send you money up front just to hold and look. any way Mrs. Mongo is giving me the evil eye. i'll talk to ya'll later.
