Should'nt the questions be carried out in the threads that answers are needed from?

I believe they are talking about a new section exclusively pertaining to Photo Taking tips. This would be a new section in need of someone with a great deal of photography skills.

I'm not an Admin and don't want to speak for them, but IMO the Photo Gallery section already serves this function. I'm not saying I think it's a bad idea - I'm just saying that I think it already exists. Many existing threads contain EXCELLENT advice about photo technique, and there may be a few things in the works to make such advice more accessible.

One of the great things about this forum IMO is that great comments come from members - not just mods! This is not a place where members should seek the "wonderful wisdom of the Oracle Moderators." Instead, at the ACF everyone learns from each other and the mod team helps to keep things moving and orderly. It is much more like a community in this way than some other forums out there.

I am very glad that such experienced and advanced aquatic photographers like CR and CF can contribute in helping us (I need it too!!!!! My pics are worthless compared to these guys'!) with our own skills. I'm glad they are so willing!!! I just don't think it needs it's own forum. The Photo Gallery forum does this already IMO.

Thank you to all who are so willing to help, and thank you to all who offer suggestions on how to improve this site. It is the active and knowledgeable membership that makes the ACF the place it is.

Matt this is unquestionably the best post I've ever read of yours.

I could not have put it nearly as perfectly th_38326493.gif

blush.gif You are too kind Heather.

Let it be noted that it was a "mod" (myself) who asked an expert (Tom aka crazyravr and Juan aka Cichlidfreak1) to advise that photo thread.
And I'm sure glad they checked it out for me.. I learned so much!!! wink.gif

I have mentioned before I do this ocasionally smile.gif

We have so many people here with so many different backgrounds and experiences,
THAT is what makes ACF the outstanding resource that it is today.

Matt, I agree with you 100%. "Oracle Moderators" are not needed at this forum. I view my role as Mod as being an observer and I try only to step in if there is any "funny business" going on, or if the posting activity slows down. Then I try to come up with new ideas to get the general membership interested again. Having sad that, I am also a member and like to participate in other sections then my own. In my own section I will answer any question that comes up to the best of my ability. In other sections I can ask question too and that is all part of the fun here. You can discuss tricky issues, play some practical jokes, post some pictures and watch other members pictures without anybody getting out of line or being yelled at (well almost). That fun atmosphere should NEVER get lost.

As to the issue at hand, I think it would work if we could create a sub-section in the photo gallery section and name it as an example "Tips & Tricks", then all these technical questions can be concentrated in one spot and members don't have to search the whole photo gallery to look something up. If there was a section like that, I would consider that a great resource to check if I can't figure it out myself.

Tom & Juan seem to know a lot about the technical aspect of photography and having them look after it (if they are willing) does by no means hinder ANY member to participate with his answers or tips.

However, I do understand your concerns and totally agree with them. Our two bosses just have to monitor this. They have nothing else to do anyway th_killingme.gif
Heather
Well I'll add my two cents about making it a separate section, which is to say I'm torn.
This is a forum dedicated to African Cichlids after all.
We do have a place dedicated to both photo discussion and off topic discussions already.
On the other hand, it would be a really neat feature to have here at ACF.
I guess I don't see how what we're talking about is different then the sticky thread that this was split from to begin with?
And Matt has something up his sleeve as he said.. he's been working on it for a while.

How's that.. clear as mud?

Hey, I did not know that. In that case, why don't we wait until we find out what our boss is working on? I'm sure that it's going to be good. Well, maybe. th_38326493.gif

Don't get too excited there guys. smile.gif It wasn't all that special an idea. Oh, and Klaus - I appreciate the thought, but I'm not really anyone's boss yet. LOL

CF and I were just trying to work on a good resource for tips on taking photos. It hadn't even taken much form. I think a lot of the suggestions mentioned here are better than what I was thinking! In particular I like Klaus's idea of a "sub-forum" of Tips and Tricks in the Photo section --- kind of like the sub-forum in Tanks and Equipment. I think this would be a great idea!!!!!

How about it Mark and Les? What do you guys think?
Albino Pleco
My appologies,,,when I responded the first time there was no mention of a "Photo Taking Tips" section. Just a section for "King of Thing"??

So with that said,,,,I guess a section like that would be very helpful if any of us want to win a photo contest!!! icon_mrgreen.gif

PS,,,,just between us,,,,,the bosses have been taking blood pressure pills lately!!! speechless-smiley-015.gif Let us ponder that a while.
pseudofreak
Great Ideas here , I'm always interested in better pictures. and need to learn alot about this area.
