The pictures below show a couple of stands that I have built with just a few tools and a little know how.

The second stand was made with a solid front with the doors cut out. The canopy on the first photo was a prototype. I am working on another design now for the second tank.

Looks great. Always nice to have stands/tops that you made yourself.

Yes Dawg,,,very good looking tank/canopy.
It's espeacially nice that one can make a tank/canopy that actually "matches" other furniture in the room with color, style, size.
Not to mention it's probably cheaper to make than buy!!! thumbs up

Very nice dawg! Looks like you have a fine creative hand (or even two of them!). I made the stand for my 125g for less than $30!!! And I think it looks great :) I had a gift card that paid for the other $60, but that's still MUCH less than paying for one at the LFS that isn't even all that sturdy! Here's a pic where you can see a good portion of the stand. It's 2x4s with a birch exterior and doors.

Picture of the front minus the finish...

Close up of top trim with covers plastic tank trim...

Close up of bottom trim, notice the 1/8 inch ofset insures weight of tank does not sit on trim causing it to crack.

Dawg / Horn,
You guys made some nice stands! I like yours much better than those high priced pine or laminant stands that are costly!
You guys moonlight as finished carpenters???

I had help with my first one, built number 2 by myself. Built the canopy by myself and am working on another canopy too. Trust me, I enjoy the compliments but I enjoy the tank even more. I think if a redneck like me can build something like this, it ought to encourage everybody.
