pseudo,
I have a pair plus about 20 2"-3" offspring. With a good strain, the colors are amazing.
Everything you read states that they are very easy to keep. You'll find articles that recommend keeping them in soft, acidic water and just as many other articles talking about keeping them in brackish water! Myself, i prefer to keep them in neutral, soft to moderately hard water.
It's said that they are easy to breed. Honestly, this was not the case for me. This is one fish I struggled with time and time again. I was finally successful late last year.
I wonder if they are similar to rams in that pH of the breeding tank affect sex ratios of the fry. Out of the 20 juveniles I have, only two are female.
If you're looking to keep them, let me know. I'll give you a pair as I really should move them out.

Definitely a nice fish, but the key is finding a good strain. Most of these that you see have somewhat washed out colors compared to Trainers.

Thanks for the comments guys. HornPlayer54, I wouldn't be too concerned with the water parameters, particularly if you find some that have been kept in your local water conditions. Much like the some of the more 'delicate' SAs, you can successfully keep WAs in parameters outside the 'natural' ranges. The fish typically do just fine. It's usually only the breeding or hatching of eggs that becomes a problem. For example, I just recently transitioned my Tilapia cf. deckerti 'large black' from pH 8.5, 15dGH water to pH 6.5, 5dGH water. The fish grew like weeds in the alkaline, hard water but would not spawn until I moved them to the softer, more acidic conditions.
Another thing with kribs is that they rarely show good color when they are smaller, particularly in the bare tanks that are usually found in the LFSs.

i was on the understanding i could keep them with my fronts ,
your fronts are small.. so you *CAN* get away with it.... for now.
however, male kribs are surprisingly vicious when they have eggs/fry so be careful, they could stress your fronts and nip them endlessly.

so is this gonna work & what kind of shells do they like best , i heard like bis snail shells are the best for them ?
they aren't shellies... but they will appreciate a small pot, or cave. They will spawn in there, the female will watch over the eggs while the male defends the general area.
IMHO the PH is a little crazy high... but if you acclimate them slowly, they should be ok

awesome pic! kribs are cool, they are what got me into cichlids to start with.. kribs,angels,discus... but i moved over to the old wold side as soon as i owned my first african
kribs temper reminds me alot of africans, like heather said when they breed the males are insane

I agree with Heather that the pH is a little high, but kribs are generally pretty hardy. Do you know the source of your fish or the water parameters they are currently being kept in? That will help you to develop an acclimatization plan for them. I think they will be fine with juvie fronts, but they'll probably rule the tank until the fronts get some size on them. Then I would worry about the fronts eating them, to be honest with you.
My experience with Pelvicachromis species is that the females are nastier than the males. This isn't to discredit anyone's experiences - just sharing my own.
I think you'll probably have more problems with the belly crawler pike. I don't think your current water conditions will match the pike's needs very well.

Thanks Wayne. I could tell when I saw them as juveniles that they would color pretty well. Interestingly enough, the offspring didn't color up nearly as well...

Wait until they pair up, the breeding dress is incredible
