Hey, Mark. I just discovered this site by following a thread on your other site in the tank pictures thread. I believe it was hornplayer54's thread. How long has this site been around? Are you going to stop at two or do you plan on others? If you don't mind me asking, why two sites? The other site covers other african cichlids as well. I'm just curious. Either way, I'm very grateful to have found this site. I look forward to hearing from you.
John Jolley
John, Mark and I met on another general forum a few weeks back and we discussed some things we thought could have been done better. A few of that forums members were unfairly hard on Mark. Mark helped me quite a bit to create this forum in hopes of it becoming a more relaxed discussion of the african cichid hobby.
Lets face it, all of us hobbyists that enjoy forum discussions have their "home" forum, but do check out other sites to see whats going on, learn some new things, meet some new people, and maybe even swap or sell some fish.
If you want to post your "home" forum, we actualy encourage it. You can put it in your signature, or even in the "Links" category.
I promise we wont take all of Marks attention. AND WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!!! cheers
Mark

Hey, Les. Thanks for the reply and thanks for the welcome.
You're right about us all visiting the various forums. I see the same user names when I visit other sites. But it is unusual to see the same person as admin on two different sites. I was just curious and making small talk. I for one am glad you two created this forum and I look forward to sharing photos and experiences as well as reading about others.
By the way, Mark, if you happen to read this, I just decided to create an avatar on this site and it worked. But I tried to use the same avatar on cyphos.com and it is too big. Can you make it work for me?
Thanks,
John

Are you talking about the same avatar as you have here?
Which is awesome by the way.... mr.green

Yes that is the one. Also, I'm going to check my profile. I'm not getting emails when someone replies to a topic that I am involved in.
Edit: I found my mistake. I didn't hit amend after my selection. Oops!

Thanks for the welcome, Trainer.
I thought about posting some pics but figured the majority has already seen them on cyphos.com. Perhaps I should post them anyways. I only have three tanks: a 150 gallon tropheus duboisi tank, a 140 gallon tropheus mpulungu tank and a 75 gallon tropheus chimba red tank. I don't deny it...I have the tropheus bug and plan on keeping it. mr.green

By all means.....post those pics brother!!!! Oh Yeah Oh Yeah Oh Yeah

Mark, I just posted some pics of the duboisi tank and the pics didn't automaticaly resize. I thought between photobucket and the forum, all pictures are resized. Is this correct? I didn't mean to post too big of files. Let me know and I'll resize them for this site.
Thanks,
John

John,
The resize software we use is kinda weird.
They don't resize until you view them the first time.
Go back now and see if they went to 800x600.

The first picture I think resized correctly. The others are at a larger size, but not the original size of the photo, thank goodness. I sure don't want to take up too much bandwidth. After all, I'm new here.

John,
Any pic larger than 800x600 will automatically resize to 800x600.
Any pic smaller than 800x600 is not effected by the resize. mr.green

that's what I figured. But all of my pics are much bigger than that.
Well, I just checked photobucket and for some reason the firs pic resized at 648 X 486. But it was taken with the others at the same setting. Oh well. As long as everyone can view them, I'm happy. all smiles

Mark,
It's kind of quiet here and I'm curious about something. At the beginning of this thread, Les said members of another forum were hard on you. Would you mind sharing that with me? I can't stop wondering.

If you upload pics at photobucket that are larger than 250kb, they automatically resize it for you. The only problem is, it seems that they resize it to whatever they see fit. mr.green
I was going through the same thing. I would upload to photobucket and then download to Cyphos and the pics would be a whole lot smaller than I originally posted on photobucket.

Good to see you here Jolley! Welcome. I have really enjoyed this new forum. Some old faces and some new, but a good time with knowledgeable folks. Again, welcome!
John, by all means- go crazy with the tropheus talk and pics. I know a lot of people love those things here!!!
If I only had more room for tanks... rolleyes
Matt, thanks for the kind words, but remember this site is for all you guys. You are the people that make it special. Hopefully we continue to get members who are knowledgable but also like to joke around. Keeping the forum relaxed is a huge goal for us.
There are a lot of forums that are more established (we are only two and a half weeks old) but some of the established forums start to get dry. Arguements and drama unfold as members get into less friendly debates of what works for them, should also work for everyone else. Sometimes they loose site of the fact that there are multiple ways of doing the same things and we all do this hobby and forums for fun. We arent getting paid.
So guys keep it relaxed and fun and if if you get bored....take a few good natured shots at the staff from time to time.
